I finally had a go at making these!. I would have posted the pics yesterday but, quite frankly, I was in recovery for the rest of the day.
They taste pretty good and look pretty good (neither down to me) but they are a bit of a faff and create a lot of washing up and, as we don't have a dishwasher (apart from Simon, boom boom), they get slightly marked down for that.
Am now going to post 53 very boring before-during-after photos so that when I am making Simon toast for his Sunday lunch I can look back on them and try to convince myself that yes, I can do better.
As per the recipe suggestion (honest) I used a packet mix (M&S I'll have you know) for the cake base, it still required some effort though. Btw, I never even knew I had a spatula before now but it made me feel pretty important to use it.
Fresh out of the oven! (shortly after this photo I discovered that if you use a plastic spatula to loosen the edges of a cake fresh out of the oven, the plastic spatula becomes deformed).
Laptop out on the breakfast bar showing the Martha Stewart video clip for reassurance.
Making the cream cheese frosting. I really could only make this part in future and be just as happy.
Adding the crumbled cake...
Little rolled-up chocolate balls off to be chilled overnight. I did take a photo of them in the fridge but when I realised that the rest of the contents of the fridge were showing, and that they might result in someone shopping me to Gillian McKeith, I thought it best to post this photo instead.
Next morning, the balls have now been squished through the daisy cutter and are back off to be chilled.
Dipped in melted chocolate and the lolly sticks added.
After a bit more chilling time the tops have been dipped in white chocolate, sprinkles and M&Ms added. There are a lot less red M&Ms in the packet than any other colour fact fans.
The hardest bit was finding somewhere to hold them whilst the tops dried. Not having a styrofoam block handy (!) I was a bit stuck until I raided George's play-doh and wodged some of that in the bottom of these containers. Well, it is non-toxic....
George has given them his seal of approval :) Mind you, he gives pretty much everything his seal of approval, except for porridge.
And yes, I do still have a laundry mountain :)

I think they look fantastic. I agree with you, rest is definintely needed when you're done.
One more thing. I want to do a cupcake pop photo roundup in the near future. I'd like to use one of your pics with a first name and location (city or country). Email me through my blog if I it's ok with you.
They really do look pretty.
Bakerella
Too cute!
The white icing and red candy is such a great contrast! They look almost elegant!
Charlotte you did an excellent work. Bravo! I want to make these pops for a baptism treat (around 100 pcs). However, I cannot find any chocolate bark for candies (either brown or white)in Greece. Exactly, what did you use for covering the pops? Chocolate? Which brand? Because I want to avoid tempering it. I want to make them one week ahead and store them in the fridge. Will it change the chocolate appearance? Your input will be valuable. Bravo again!
Hi - the pops look fantastic!
I'm hoping to make some for my nieces birthday party next week - can you tell me how you converted the us measurements to uk?
Eg - the 2 cups of cream cheese frosting uses 1/2 cup of butter, 1 pound box of confectioners icing - how did you convert these? Is a us pound the same as a uk pound?
Hope you can help!
hello! how do you do it? can i please have the recipe i would wanna do it for mothers day :D please and thankyou in advance..
