Inspired/embarrassed by our fake picnic on Saturday we went to Wisley on Sunday for a second attempt. As there was little/no suitable food in the house I stopped at a petrol station with an M&S foodhall wotsit on the way and told George to put what he wanted in the basket. I know, I know, I know, but it was already bloody hot and I really didn't want to get bothered by a major showdown with a 3 year old before we had even arrived at our destination ;)
He chose a Fruit Shoot (surprise surprise) a pack of mini sausages (unexpected), a tuna and sweetcorn sarnie (doubly unexpected), three packets of crisps (oh god) and a packet of custard creams (me likey). What I actually expected I don't know but I was petrified that Jamie Oliver was going to jump out of some nook or cranny and do a picnic inspection before we could scoff the lot.
We found a nice little shady spot at Wisley and had hardly cracked open the spoils when the early food-detection alarm in the duck's HQ must have been triggered and we had some visitors!
In the event, the ducks ate half the sandwich, the giant fish ate half of one packet of crisps (other two still in the cupboard along with most of the Custard Creams) and George wolfed down the sausages in their entireity!
Thank heavens for tree stumps when you fancy a bit of peace and quiet eh? George had taken two Custard Creams out of the packet before venturing off to climb on and off the tree stump 56 times, and when he came back to our blanket and saw they were still there, he looked at me and said "Good girl Mummy for not eating my biscuits". I didn't know to laugh or cry. Out of the mouths of babes eh?
George decided he wanted to take some photos with my beloved DSLR but things had been going pretty well generally so I let him do his thang and was very pleasantly surprised by the results, bless his cottons!
On the way out we stopped to look at the fish. Who on earth designed this bridge? I suppose someone who realised that no one would be so silly as to actually let their kids dangle out of it whilst taking a photo.
George took this photo whilst dangling through the hole with my beloved camera. It was quite possibly the bravest 30 seconds of my life.
Anyhoo, George has his school induction this afternoon (I am totally dreading it, he has already made it very clear that I will NOT be leaving him there) so I need to find the 4,356 permission slips that I have had to sign in readiness for the start of term.
